As some of you may know Poppy gave us our first litter of a singleton boy back in December of 2023. Due to many compounding reasons (a cyst like object, possible fluid in her uterus) we were led to believe she may struggle with fertility and were recommended by many breeders and repro specialists to use an in house, virile stud to live  cover her second breeding attempt. After prelim health testing results and a breeding soundness exam it was obvious that Retro was the man for the job. Despite being younger than we would have preferred him to be, we knew that if we only got this one more shot at a keeper out of Poppy we would want it to be out of Retro.

This is because when we originally got Retro the girl we were most excited to pair him to was Poppy. Not only do they compliment each other physically but Poppy also has a little bit of Just-Wright behind her pedigree which none of our other girls have. Retro's grand-sire "Monty" can also be found in Poppy's fifth generation as the sire of "Garth" (if you want to look on her page), so although it is mostly an outcross there is that little bit of line breeding that made the pairing just a little more likely to click into place with some consistency.

Born 09/05/24

5 girls 1 boy

As it turned out Poppy had no issues cooking up an absolutely lovely litter with some fresh sauce! She brought 6 beautiful babies (5 girls and 1 boy) into the world on 9/5/24 via c-section and had them fattened up before they could even drop below birth weight. In a surprising turn of events the unknown cyst-like object was found to have disppeared when we took her back in for a follow up scan! It's possible the pressure of contractions and pushing popped whatever it was. All that worry for nothing! To say Poppy is a good mother is an understatement. There is nothing this girl loves more than her babies and she raises them so well from start to finish. We have such pride sending these sound confident puppies out into the world but most of it is thanks to their amazing mothers.

Since Poppy was so generous with the selection of girls we really had our work cut out for us in choosing our keeper. We had the majority of the litter in the running for a long time and ultimately decided to keep to since they offered two different looks and varied strengths. Vintage (previously Iris) takes after her dad looks wise and also inherited his easy flowing movement but she is an improvement on him in that she is shorter in length and has better ribbing. Posie our other keeper took after her mom in the looks department and although she doesnt have the effortless movement we were hoping for she is ultimately the look we we were hoping to achieve with this pairing. From her substance to her stylish rear and gorgeous long neck she is quite the package! The other pups all went to wonderful pet home. Cosmo now Reuben is an hour north of us in Spokane where he lives with his family and big brother Winston the Envigo beagle. Peony now Pepper went west to the Seattle area where she lives with her family and two older beagle sisters Coco and Chica. Aster now Mila went down to sunny CA in the SF area with her new mom and gets to play with her favorite kiddo all the time. And miss Violet who is still Violet went down to Arizona to live with a long time beagler and may perhaps be shown someday if she turns out how we think she will, she also has a elder beagle sister named Autumn. So far we have heard all wonderful things from these homes and look forward to watching them mature and thrive in their new lives
